The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) takes conduct of stabbing investigation in Surrey.
Background:
On July 23, 2024, at approximately 11:50 p.m., Surrey RCMP responded to a complaint of a fight in the 6600 block of King George Boulevard, Surrey. First responders, attended and located a man suffering from multiple stab wounds. Despite life-saving efforts from both officers and British Columbia Emergency Health Services (BC EHS), the man succumbed to his injuries on scene. Witnesses reported seeing a suspect male, fleeing the scene.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) took conduct of the investigation.
Update:
IHIT investigators have identified the victim as 47-year-old Jason Richard Gill, from Surrey, and are releasing his name in hopes of advancing the investigation.

IHIT is working in partnership with the BC Coroners Service, Integrated Forensic Identification Services (IFIS), and the Surrey RCMP. From the early stages of the investigation, this incident is not believed to be linked to the BC Gang Conflict.
The preliminary investigation suggests that the two individuals were engaged in an altercation resulting in the victim being fatally stabbed. It is unknown if the two parties were known to each other or the motivation for this tragic incident.
The suspect seen fleeing the area is described as a white male, 6 feet tall, who was clean shaven and had short, sandy colored blonde hair.
We are in the early stages of the investigation, and investigators are working to determine the motive,
