Update 2024-09-20: Police are seeking any motorist with dash camera video footage who travelled between Nitinat, through Youbou and the entrance to the Town of Lake Cowichan (North Shore Rd and Youbou Rd) between midnight and noon on Tuesday, September 3, 2024. Those motorists are asked to called the VIIMCU information line at 250-380-6211.

The Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit (VIIMCU) has been deployed to assist with a suspected homicide investigation in Lake Cowichan, B.C.

On September 3, 2024 at 11:00 pm, Lake Cowichan RCMP attended a residence in the 7900 block Cowichan Lake road to check a property for Tavis Cragg who was reported missing from Nanaimo on September 3, 2024. Responding officers located Cragg believed to be a victim of a homicide.

VIIMCU was contacted and has since taken conduct of the investigation. One suspect was identified and was met by investigators.

The investigation remains in its early stages but investigators believe this is an isolated incident and there is no ongoing risk to community safety.
